What is a Career Academy?
A career academy is a small learning community comprised of students and staff
members. These learning communities, career-focused and academically challenging,
prepare students equally for college and the workforce. Key academy concepts include
the integration of core academic curriculum with the career pathway as well as taking
career courses in a coherent sequence that fosters skill development and leads to
industry-recognized certifications.
 
Who is eligible to attend the Academy of Energy and International Business?
Incoming ninth-graders (Class of 2024) are eligible to attend. All applicants will be
interviewed by a small admissions panel and complete an authentic essay on site.
 
How many college hours can students earn at the Academy of Energy and
International Business?
Students have the opportunity to earn a minimum of 12 college credit hours through
Lone Star College–Tomball. The actual number of hours earned will vary by program
and student.
 
Where is the Academy of Energy and International Business located?
The Academy of Energy and International Business is located at BJ Services, 11211 FM
2920.
 
When will classes start?
Classes start in August at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
 
Will transportation be provided to the Academy of Energy and International
Business?
Transportation will be provided to and from the Academy of Energy and International
Business from both Tomball High and Tomball Memorial High Schools.
 
Can students try out the Academy of Energy and International Business for a few
weeks and then transfer if they don’t like it?
No, there is no trial period. Once assigned to the Academy of Energy and International
Business, students will adhere to Tomball ISD’s transfer policy. The Academy of Energy
and International Business is designed for motivated students who are interested in
exploring their career interests in an innovative and academically challenging
environment. The Academy will give students a competitive edge as they move into
postsecondary education and their professional careers.
 
Can I transfer to the Academy of Energy and International Business later in my
high school career?
A student may enter the Academy of Energy and International Business as a freshman.
However, if there may be limited spots available for sophomores in the future depending
on enrollment counts.
 
Can I participate in athletics, band, and other extracurricular activities at the high
school I would attend by district assignment?
Yes! The Academy of Energy and International Business students are at their home
high school for the majority of the school day and are eligible to participate in UIL and
other extracurricular activities including athletics, choir, band, FFA, and drill team, as
scheduling permits.
 
When will selections be made?
Completed student applications are due Sunday, February 2, 2020. Students will be
notified after that time. There is no appeal process if a student is not accepted.
