In 2009, the state of Texas began requiring specific immunizations for all 7th graders.
The immunizations that incoming 7th graders in Tomball ISD will need are:
1. Tetanus, Diphtheria and acellular pertussis-containing vaccine (Tdap): All students entering the seventh grade will be required to have one dose of Tdap. Students in the seventh grade will be required to have a booster dose of Tdap only if it has been five years since their last dose of a tetanus-containing vaccine.
2. Varicella Vaccine (Chicken Pox): All students entering 7th grade will be required to have 2 doses of varicella vaccine. A written statement from a parent (or legal guardian or managing conservator) or physician attesting to a child’s positive history of varicella disease (chickenpox), or of varicella immunity, is acceptable in lieu of either dose of varicella vaccine.
3. Meningococcal Vaccine (Meningitis): All students entering 7th grade will be required to have one dose of quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine (Menactra, MCV4, Menveo, MenHibrix) .
Please check all immunization records to see what your student may need to start school and submit documentation as soon as possible. This change in rules will affect many students so we recommend you do not wait until August to try to update your student’s immunizations.
Acceptable documentation includes a note from the doctor’s office, an immunization card or a billing statement with the immunizations itemized. Documentation must have a physician’s signature or clinic stamp. Month/day/year must be recorded for each immunization.
Documentation may be turned in to your child’s present school nurse or mailed during the summer to the appropriate junior high school.
****Please understand, we do not want to disappoint you or your child by being required to send your child home for not meeting state requirements on the first day of school in August.
