TOMBALL - Tomball’s innovative and collaborative spirit continues as Tomball ISD, Lone Star College-Tomball and Harris County Public Library/LSC-Tomball Community Library join together once again to establish SPARK (Sharing, Partnering and Reaching for Knowledge), a new partnership to support educational and literacy goals through resource sharing and accessibility to library cards.
“For it is the continued innovative collaboration between our local college, library and school district that makes Tomball so special,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, TISD Superintendent of Schools. “We continue to seek out creative ways to elevate our passion for education all while providing endless opportunities for our community. SPARK will enable us to reach our families in ways in which we never imagined before through a love for literacy and we are excited to see this new idea grow into fruition.”
This partnership will focus on several key concepts, including Innovation and Creativity, Accessibility and Communication and will benefit all organizations by enhancing all students and teachers’ educational experience.
“Collaborative relationships are an absolute and undeniable strength of the Tomball community,” said Dr. Lee Ann Nutt, President of LSC-Tomball. “We have a long and fruitful history of partnerships among and between various entities. SPARK is another example of the magic that can happen in a community that values working together for the greater good.”
As this partnership develops, specific areas will be addressed:
1. Library Cards - all entities will work together to collaboratively provide library cards to all students and teachers in Tomball ISD. Registering for a library card will not require a visit to a physical library location and will be done in a way to protect student privacy.
“Harris County Public Library is excited to be partnering with Tomball ISD and LSC-Tomball to issue library cards and bring library books and digital materials to every Tomball ISD student and teacher,” said Amber Seely, HCPL Division Director, Collections & Technical Services.
2. Resource Sharing – Harris County Public Library will expand and enhance the accessibility and variety of resources available to TISD students, faculty and librarians both through electronic resources and a newly-established material delivery service.
3. Library Learning Corners – HCPL/LSC-Tomball Community Library and TISD librarians will work together to establish physical areas in TISD libraries to house a curated, rotating and customizable selection of materials from various HCPL resources.
“We are so excited about the SPARK partnership as this opportunity will promote literacy and extend classroom learning by expanding the variety of books, resources, and materials available to all students and staff,” said Dianne Tidwell, TISD Director of Digital Learning. “Through this unique partnership, our students and staff will be offered a pathway to achieving extraordinary learning experiences.”
4. Program Collaboration and Communication - TISD and HCPL/LSC-Tomball Community Library teams will work collaboratively on developing multiple new activities, programs and events.
“We at the LSC-Tomball Community Library and Harris County Public Library are excited about expanding our partnership with Tomball ISD and LSC-Tomball,” said Janna Hoglund, Director of LSC-Tomball Community Library. “SPARK is a special initiative in resource sharing and all three organizations will continue to work closely together. This partnership will not only support the TISD students and teachers in their current studies, but will also help in college preparation. We are looking forward to SPARK and all the benefits it will bring to our community!”
Through this partnership, innovative ideas and collaborative thinking will continue to arise and provide immense educational benefits for everyone involved. As the 2021-22 school year approaches, information regarding library cards and resource sharing will be communicated to all families and staff in Tomball ISD.
