TOMBALL –  Tomball ISD Assistant Superintendent of Finance Zack Boles will be named the District’s next Chief Financial Officer, following the retirement of current CFO Jim Ross.

Boles is no stranger to TISD, having played an integral role in the District’s financial success over the last 13 years.

“Zack Boles has not only contributed countless hours to serving our District but is knowledgeable and a true professional in school finance. He is prepared for this next step in his career. Having learned under Mr. Ross, I am confident Zack will continue to strive for financial excellence and strong fiscal management. We are lucky to have him as our next CFO,” said Tomball ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora.

He has dedicated his entire professional career to Tomball ISD, beginning back in 2010 as the Staff Accountant. From there, he became the Director of Finance in 2012, and was later promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Finance in 2020.

In his role as Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Boles oversaw the Tax Office, Payroll, Purchasing, Accounts Payable, and Accounting departments while continuing to assist Ross in the CFO position. Boles also prepared the District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, ensured compliance with all purchasing, payroll and accounting laws and regulations, while also preparing financial information for all bond sales and assisting with rating agency reviews.

As CFO, Boles will continue to lead and oversee the financial operations of the District and will expand to include budget, debt issuance/management, purchase/sale of property, benefits, risk management, construction, and maintenance.

Since Boles’ arrival back in 2010, the Tomball ISD’s Finance Department has earned a Superior rating for Fiscal Management and Financial Condition, the Excellence in Financial Reporting award from national organizations, and clean audits for 13 straight years. Boles has also been a part of a Finance team that has guided Tomball ISD to an AA+ rating with Standard & Poor's and an Aa1 rating with Moody's, a Purchasing Award of Merit in 2023, and assisted in the sale of $835 million in proceeds for Bond 2013, 2017, and 2021.

Boles graduated from Texas State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and from Sam Houston State University with a Master of Business Administration in 2017.

Boles’ wife Amanda is the Assistant Superintendent of Business & Financial Services in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. The couple have two children: daughter Rylee and son Cooper.

What has inspired you to want to fill the CFO role?
“My dad is a retired Superintendent and I have dozens of other family members in education, so I've been immersed in every aspect of a school district since I was in junior high.  Seeing my dad at the highest level of his profession has always inspired me to do the same.  It's also an opportunity to continue supporting the district and community that I live in.”

Why Tomball ISD?
“Tomball is home, and where we have chosen to raise our kids.  Tomball ISD and the Tomball community are the best in the state, and it is a privilege to get to play a role in the opportunities we offer our students.”

How has working under Mr. Jim Ross prepared you for this moment?
“Mr. Ross has been instrumental in my growth, and I cannot thank him enough for dedicating his time to building my experience and knowledge of school finance.  He has financially guided Tomball ISD through tremendous growth and created a strong foundation the District can continue to build on.”

What can others expect from you as the CFO and now member of the TISD Cabinet?
“I would like to thank Dr. Z, the Cabinet, and the Board of Trustees for their support as I continue Tomball ISD's pursuit of financial excellence with a consistent, transparent, and responsible approach.”
