TOMBALL - Tomball ISD announces Tylene Hicks as the next Principal of Tomball Intermediate School. She will replace Dr. Kelly Marchiando, who is transitioning to become the next Principal at Willow Wood Junior High.

“Tomball ISD is thrilled to welcome our new principal, Ms. Tylene Hicks,” said Dr. Mindy Munoz, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools. “Ms. Hicks arrives with a wealth of successful experience and a genuine passion for both students and staff. Known for her collaborative spirit, she is eager to partner with our parents and the wider Tomball ISD community to foster an exceptional learning environment where staff, students, and the community thrive.”

Ms. Hicks is an experienced bilingual educator and leader who brings over 27 years of education experience to this leadership role, and over 15 years of experience as a campus administrator.

Ms. Hicks spent time over the last nine years serving students in grades Pre-K through sixth grade as Principal of Sycamore Canyon Elementary and students in grades Pre-K through eighth grade at Chet F. Harritt STEAM School in Santee School District in Santee, CA.

Prior to serving in that role, she spent four years as an Assistant Principal at Cajon Park Elementary (PK-8th) and Carlton Hills Elementary (PK-8th). She began her campus administration journey back in 2010 in La Mesa-Spring Valley School District as the Assistant Principal and Dean of Students at La Presa Middle School, where she spent two years in that role.

Ms. Hicks’ education career began in 1998 where she spent the next 10 years as a classroom teacher at both the middle school and elementary level.

She brings a diverse background to Tomball ISD, and has a proven track record of being a strong administrator who advocates for all children.

She earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree from San Diego State University.

Along with her leadership experience, Ms. Hicks brings extensive knowledge in professional learning and development opportunities, and will use that experience at TIS to continue elevating the campus’ PLC Model School accolade and drive continued growth and student achievement.

Again, Ms. Hicks will take over at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

What was intriguing about joining Tomball ISD as a campus leader?
“What intrigued me most about joining Tomball ISD as a campus leader was the district’s reputation for fostering educational excellence in a supportive community where students, staff, and families work collaboratively toward success. The strong sense of unity and shared purpose, combined with the district’s close-knit family environment, make an ideal place to grow as a leader and make a meaningful impact.”

What is it about education that you love so much?
“What I love most about education is witnessing student growth - academically, emotionally, and personally. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching students develop confidence, expand their thinking, and discover their own potential. Education is not just about teaching content; it’s about nurturing curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning. Seeing that transformation over time, makes education profoundly meaningful.”

What can the TIS community expect from you as their new leader?
“As a leader in the Tomball Intermediate community, I will bring honesty, integrity, and transparency to every interaction. I believe in the power of truly listening - not just hearing concerns, but understanding them - so I can respond with compassion, insight, and action. I am deeply committed to motivating and inspiring students to reach their full potential, recognizing that every child has unique strengths and the ability to succeed.
