TOMBALL - Chad Schmidt, current Principal of Tomball Elementary, has been announced as the new Principal of West Elementary, the 12th elementary school in Tomball ISD, set to open in Fall 2024.

Schmidt has dedicated 26 years to education with the last seven years coming in Tomball ISD as the TES Principal.

“I am truly honored and excited to have the opportunity to begin the journey of learning and excellence at West Elementary,” said Schmidt. “I am so proud of the work we have done and the culture created by the staff and community at Tomball Elementary. I am and always will be TES Proud!”

During his career, Schmidt has served not only as a campus Principal, totaling 13 years in that role, but as a teacher and Assistant Principal as well. In just seven years in Tomball ISD, he has created a positive learning environment at Tomball Elementary that has seen sustained success as a Great Expectations and Professional Learning Community at Work Model School. The pride and established culture at TES is a reflection of the leadership and passion that Schmidt brought to his role as the campus leader each and every day.

“We are very excited to have a proven leader in Mr. Schmidt have the opportunity to open our newest Elementary campus and establish a positive culture of learning and care for the students of West Elementary,” said Dr. George Flores, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools. “Mr. Schmidt is held in high regard in the Tomball community because of his passion for education, high integrity and track record of student success while building a positive community culture where staff is proud to serve.  The opening of West Elementary and beyond is in great hands for years to come with Mr. Schmidt.”

Mr. Schmidt will continue as Principal at Tomball Elementary until Spring Break, where he will then focus his efforts full time on a successful opening of West Elementary.  The search for the next Tomball Elementary Principal is currently underway and a new campus leader will be announced soon.

What’s intriguing about opening a new school?
“Everything about opening a new school is intriguing because everything is new. We know the building and the campus will be amazing and beautiful, but it is so exciting to be able to establish the traditions, structures, and expectations for a campus to then start a culture of excellence and learning. What an amazing honor to be able to help begin writing the history of excellence at West Elementary!”

What can this community expect from you as a leader? What will the culture be like?
“I cannot even begin to express the honor that it is to be able to lead West Elementary. My wife, Kellie, and I live in the West community and are so blessed to live and serve such an amazing community.  My leadership is focused on service and support to all stakeholders. My goal in leadership is to see a love for learning from every student, a sense of pride for every family, and a culture that fosters growth and leadership for all staff.

“West Elementary will be a collaborative culture focused on high levels of learning for each and every student. Together, we will work to build strong parent and community partnerships to positively enhance every student’s experience. We will have a school culture that attracts the best staff and positively supports all learners to reach their goals. TWES will have a positive culture that you feel before you even walk in the doors.”

What’s special about working in Tomball ISD?
“Tomball ISD is truly a destination for excellence. Everything is special in this district:  the students, the families, the community and the staff.  It is such an incredible honor to be able to open West Elementary and start the journey that begins an amazing story of success for the students and families on the west side of this Destination District.”
