Tomball ISD, Timber Creek Elementary Recognized by Summit K12
TOMBALL – For its English Language Proficiency Growth and in Closing the Domain 3 Gap with Emergent Bilingual Students from 2019 to 2021, Tomball ISD has been selected as one of the Top 25 School Districts in Texas and Timber Creek Elementary School has been named a statewide Elementary School Finalist.
“This honor highlights the significant work that took place over the past two years, even during COVID, with our English learners,” Tomball ISD Director of Multilingual Programs, Brenda Artega said. “Our teachers, specialists, and administrators focused on continuing to build the English language skills of our students who are learning the language. Their commitment and dedication show through in the data for growth and Closing the Gaps for our students. We could not be more proud of our schools and their continued efforts in excellence for each and every student.”
Tomball ISD was among the Top 25 out of 300 school districts in English Learner Growth and Closing the Gaps that partner with the Summit K12 program across the state. This program focuses on listening and speaking skills.
Timber Creek Elementary, specifically, made the biggest progress of any other TISD school, to achieve this status.
“I would like to thank Summit K12 for their recognition of our achievement gains for our English Language Learners,” Timber Creek Elementary Principal Lauren Thompson said.
Timber Creek serves a large community of diverse English language learners, which include spoken languages of Spanish, Russian, Tagalog, Portuguese, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese, Hindi, Japanese, Nepali, Khmer and Danish.
“We are thrilled to be recognized for ensuring their English language acquisition is at the highest level. We are very proud that despite the many challenges our students and staff faced over the past two years, our expectation for high academic achievement and growth remained high for all learners. It is amazing to be recognized for the growth of these amazing students,” Thompson said.
Tomball ISD and Timber Creek Elementary School will be recognized by Summit K12 at this year’s TABE Conference on October 26 in El Paso. TCES will be awarded a grant between $250 to $1,500 for their accomplishment.
