TOMBALL — Tomball High School has achieved the highest UIL Lone Star Cup finish in school history, placing 13th among more than 240 Class 6A high schools across Texas and solidifying its reputation as one of the state's premier comprehensive high school programs.

The Cougars accumulated 75 points in the 2025-2026 UIL Lone Star Cup standings, earning a Top-15 finish among Texas' largest classification and showcasing excellence across academics, athletics, fine arts, music, spirit, and extracurricular competition.

Even more impressive, Tomball High School's 75-point total nearly doubled that of the next-highest school in the district's competitive landscape, which earned 39 points and finished 63rd statewide.

"Finishing 13th in the UIL Lone Star Cup and 10th in the Texas Cup is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the culture of excellence that exists at The Pride of Texas,” said Dr. Kim McKinney, Tomball High School Principal. “These rankings represent the commitment of our students, staff, coaches, directors, and community to pursuing excellence in every arena. We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment and what it says about Tomball High School."

The UIL Lone Star Cup is one of the most prestigious honors awarded to Texas high schools. Established by the University Interscholastic League, the award recognizes the best overall high school programs in each classification based on performance in district, regional, and state-level UIL competitions throughout the school year. Schools earn points through success in academics, athletics, music, spirit, and other UIL-sanctioned activities, making the Lone Star Cup a true measure of comprehensive student achievement and program excellence.

The historic ranking was fueled by a remarkable year of achievement across multiple programs.

The Lone Star Cup success was complemented by another significant statewide recognition. In the Texas Cup rankings administered by the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA), Tomball High School finished No. 10 among more than 240 Class 6A schools in Texas.

The Texas Cup recognizes overall athletic achievement based on team success in UIL-sanctioned sports and celebrates the state's top-performing athletic programs. While the UIL Lone Star Cup measures comprehensive success across academics, fine arts, and athletics, the Texas Cup focuses exclusively on athletic performance. Together, the rankings highlight Tomball High School's exceptional strength both as an athletic powerhouse and as one of the most well-rounded educational programs in Texas.

"Being recognized as one of the elite programs in the State of Texas is a great honor and it shows the amazing kids, coaches, sponsors, and support that we have at Tomball High," said Dave Handal, THS Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach.
