A culture of success has been built within the Tomball Memorial High School Girls Soccer program. Coming off of two visits to the Regional Semifinal round the last two seasons, this program has solidified itself as one of top programs in Texas UIL 6A competition.

The Wildcats are currently 9-0-0 to open the 2022-2023 season. Led by second year head coach Allison Abendschein, this team rosters three seniors, nine juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen.

“Last season, we had a solid foundation of players and this year we are building on that experience while adding a few new players to our roster,” said Abendschein. “We have had several returning players step up into leadership roles to help guide the younger players, and it’s been great to watch upperclassmen welcoming freshmen to the team.”

Competing in a highly-competitive 6A classification, TMHS understands the importance of building a strong team culture and close relationships in order to stay focused throughout a long season that will see ups and downs.

“What makes TMHS Girls Soccer special is the relationships that are built both on and off the soccer field,” said Abendschein. “Our team is all about being the best teammate that you can be every single day. We are working diligently on becoming a culture of serving others and putting the team above individual needs. TMHS Girls Soccer is all about having a strong work ethic and being a supportive and selfless teammate each and every day.”

Despite recent success, which included a notable win off penalty kicks vs. Katy Jordan in the I-10 Shootout Championship earlier this season, TMHS Girls Soccer is humble in their approach and expectations for this season. While boasting a 9-0-0 record so far, Abendschein understands how challenging district play can be.

“The team’s goal this year is to first make it to the playoffs,” she said. “We have an extremely competitive district, so making it out of district play to the postseason is our first major goal. We have made it to the Regional Semifinals the last two seasons, so getting back there for a third year and winning our Region is a big goal as well.”

The success TMHS Girls Soccer has experienced over the past few seasons has produced a fan experience like no other. When watching this team compete, a fan can expect a fun atmosphere where you can truly see the passion these young athletes have for the sport and for their teammates.

As head coach, Abendschein has embraced the success, while in turn, building something quite special at TMHS.

“My favorite part about coaching is getting to know each athlete and helping to reach their goals on and off the field,” she said. “We have a great group of athletes and getting to be a part of some of their most formative and memorable years is so special.”
