TMHS Football Creates Community Connection through Team Events

TMHS Football Helmet Decal Event

Football in Tomball ISD naturally brings a community together, and through community connections and building activities, Tomball Memorial High School Football is maximizing opportunities for its student-athletes to help create and leverage school spirit and showcase Wildcat pride.

Led by new football head coach Joe Cary, the TMHS Football team has been sharing experiences that are building team morale and community connection.

With the 2024 season finally here, the Wildcats recently hosted its annual event, “Helmets & Heroes”, which recognized educators who have made a profound impact on the life of one of the TMHS varsity football players.

The student-athletes chose a teacher, counselor, administrator or coach from their time in Tomball ISD, and invited them to assist with putting their decals on their helmet for the season.

“If you know football players, you know that those decals are very special and something they look forward to each year,” said Coach Cary. “We feel there is no one more qualified to put the decals on the helmets than their amazing educators.”

Over 70 staff members or educators were invited to join the team for a fun afternoon.

“We feel it is important for the faculty and staff at TMHS to know how much they are appreciated and the significance of what they do on a daily basis,” said Cary.

In addition to “Helmets & Heroes”, TMHS Football also hosted:

“Pigskin & Pearls” was an event dedicated to football moms, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, etc. This opportunity allowed these women to learn more about the sport, hear presentations from coaches, meet their son’s position coach, perform on-field drills, and have fellowship with the other women in other families. They were fed lunch and provided a t-shirt, and were asked to write an encouraging note to their football player to be read prior to the season.

“Popsicles with the Band” allowed the varsity football players to provide appreciation to their band, who continues to work hard supporting them all season.

“We have over 300 football players in our program, and we feel it is important that our young men understand they are part of something bigger than themselves,” said Cary. “Friday Night involves so many groups, whether it is band, cheer, drill team, JROTC, etc., so there are many ways to contribute to our campus and community.”

The Wildcats also expanded their community outreach to the outside community by supporting hurricane relief efforts. About 60 TMHS football players went out in the community after Hurricane Beryl to help clean up yards, cut up trees, pick up debris, and help families any way they could.

“In Tomball ISD, there are so many supportive people that are eager and excited every day to help out in any way possible,” said Cary. “We are grateful for the opportunity to represent TMHS and this community every week on the field with honor, pride, and integrity.”
