Sports have the extraordinary ability to transcend barriers, bringing students together through shared passion, purpose, and unique experiences. By creating opportunities for inclusion through sports, individuals from diverse backgrounds learn to connect, grow, and thrive.

At Tomball Memorial High School, student-athlete Jackson Collier and the TMHS Baseball team have organized an annual kickball game through Unified Sports.

“Unified Champion Sports is a program that brings students together to compete in various sports, fostering inclusion and community,” Collier said. “I realized that our high school needed something similar so I decided to step up and take the lead.”

PALS students from TMHS recently joined the TMHS Baseball team on the field for its Second Annual Unified Kickball Game.

This game is more than just an event.

“The Unified Kickball Game is so important because it creates opportunities for kids who may face challenges that prevent them from participating in traditional activities,” Collier said. “It allows them to experience the joy and camaraderie of being part of a high school sports team.”

This game not only fosters inclusion, bringing together students from different backgrounds, but creates a unique opportunity for student-athletes to help inspire and forge new bonds.

“My goal was to show others that it’s okay to try something new, to step out of their comfort zones, and to create opportunities for people to come together, have fun, and get involved,” Collier said. “This was my way of inspiring others to embrace inclusion and take part in building something meaningful for our school and community.”

Students in the PALS program practiced in advance and then took part in a fun-filled game on the field where they were the stars of the show.

“Whether you’re a player or a fan, the love for the game fosters friendships and a sense of belonging,” he said. “Moments like these not only strengthen school spirit but also help build a stronger, more connected community, showing how sports can leave a lasting positive impact.”

This annual game plans to continue at TMHS, and the hope is to build and grow more opportunities for students across the campus to participate in experiences like this one together.

“We were placed in this world to spread joy, love, and kindness, and one of the best ways to do that is by giving back - no matter how big or small the gesture,” Collier said. “Whether through time, effort, or resources, every contribution can make a meaningful difference and inspire others to do the same.”
