Feel Good Story: More Than a Badge - Deputy Young’s Impact at Tomball Elementary

Officer Anthony Young SRO

At Tomball Elementary, School Resource Officer and Deputy Anthony Young is known not only for keeping the campus safe, but for the heart, compassion, and connection he brings to every hallway he walks.

“This assignment gives me the opportunity to really make an impact on students, staff, and even parents,” Deputy Young said. “When families drop their children off every day, they’re trusting that they will be 110% protected and cared for in every way possible — and that means a lot to me.”

With 30 years in law enforcement and nearly 10 years serving as a School Resource Officer, Deputy Young brings deep experience to his role. Although this is his first year at Tomball Elementary, he says he would not want to be anywhere else.

“I’ve worked at many schools over the years, and I’ve never seen such a professional, yet fun and family-friendly administrative team,” he shared. “They care so much about these students and don’t get enough credit for the impact they’re making.”

That culture of care was on full display during a recent therapy session, when a student was preparing for an upcoming Fun Day that required riding a tricycle. When the tires wouldn’t inflate and the pedals didn’t fit properly, Deputy Young stepped in — quietly filling the tires, finding the right tools, and adjusting the bike so the student could ride safely and confidently.

Because of his help, the student was able to practice in time for the big day — a small moment that made a big difference.

“That moment spoke volumes about who Officer Tony is,” said TES Principal Melissa Baudoin. “He saw a small obstacle that could have become a big disappointment and made sure that child could fully participate and feel included. That shows kindness, patience, and genuine care.”

For Deputy Young, moments like these are anything but small.

“I wouldn’t say these moments are small — quite the opposite,” he explained. “A police officer can have a big impact on a child. Sometimes I’m not just a police officer — I’m a mentor or someone they can talk to. Sitting with a quiet or upset child and really listening to them can mean the world.”

That relationship-building is especially important in an elementary setting.

“Younger students don’t really know what a police officer is except what they see on TV,” he said. “So you have to be prepared for questions, for curiosity, and for connection.”

Those daily interactions are what help students feel safe, valued, and supported.

“Officer Tony’s willingness to step in and help in any capacity sets the tone for our entire campus,” Baudoin said. “He models compassion, teamwork, and service, which strengthens the culture of our school.”

When asked how he hopes students remember him one day, Deputy Young kept it simple.

“I hope they see me as a good role model — someone who was professional, friendly, and always tried to help others.”

For families, his message is just as heartfelt.

“When you say goodbye to your child in the morning, I want you to know they will be safe, cared for, and confident while they’re here,” he said. “That’s how we create a positive learning environment.”

At Tomball Elementary, Deputy Anthony Young doesn’t just protect — he connects, encourages, and helps every child feel they belong. And that makes all the difference.

Tomball ISD also proudly appreciates its continued partnership with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office and the many dedicated School Resource Officers across the district who, like Deputy Young, go above and beyond every day to support, protect, and uplift our students on campuses throughout Tomball ISD.
