Feel Good Story: Houston Astros’ Orbit Visits Tomball Intermediate for “Strikeout Bullying Show” Thanks to Support from PTO
Tomball Intermediate School students were recently immersed in a powerful anti-bullying presentation designed to educate, inspire, and equip them with the tools to stand up against bullying.
The highly interactive sessions, led by the Houston Astros organization, featuring Orbit, and presented by Whataburger, engaged both fifth and sixth grade students at TIS during two separate presentations.
In partnership with the Houston Astros, this opportunity for TIS students was brought entirely to campus by the Tomball Intermediate PTO.
The “Strikeout Bullying Show” featured Orbit and an emcee teaching students about the different types of bullying and encouraged students to take a pledge to make bullying STOP by Standing up for one another, Telling an adult, Offering friendship, and Practicing respect.
“Fifth and sixth grade are critical years when students begin navigating more complex social interactions, making it essential to equip them with the knowledge and tools to recognize, prevent, and address bullying,” said Dr. Kelly Marchiando, TIS Principal.
The presentation also emphasized words and actions, and provided students with a deeper understanding of what bullying actually looks like - whether physical, verbal, or social - and how it can significantly impact a person’s emotional well-being.
“By fostering empathy, encouraging positive peer interactions, and promoting a culture of kindness, we hope students walk away empowered to be upstanders who help create a safe and supportive school environment,” said Dr. Marchiando.
