GOES and GLJHS partnership

Grand Oaks Elementary and Grand Lakes Junior High students recently participated in a learning initiative by collaborating on enhanced research projects that helped build personal connections.

In an effort to inspire a collaborative learning environment, this initiative was sparked following an observation within the library setting at GOES.

“It became apparent that several grade levels were engaging in research projects centered around the theme of animals,” said Bev Schaffer, GOES Librarian. “We knew that GLJHS offered a College and Career Readiness course. Given the proximity of GLJHS and GOES, we proactively reached out to establish a collaborative partnership, inviting their students to assist us in conducting research on various career paths.”

Every first grade class at GOES benefited from the participation of approximately three students from GLJHS’ College and Career Readiness Class who actively contributed to the research process by providing guidance and support.

“This personalized support helped first grade students develop research skills, such as identifying credible sources, organizing information, and synthesizing findings, in a manner appropriate for their developmental level,” said Schaffer.

The interaction between students from GOES and GLJHS went beyond classroom material to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a positive attitude towards learning and exploration.
