Feel Good: Showing Up for Kids, One Fist Bump at a Time: Meet Creekside Park’s Shannon Boucher

An older man and a teenage girl wearing backpacks stand in front of a brick school building entrance.

Mr. Boucher and a Creekside Park student dress up on opposite day during Homecoming Week.

If you’ve spent any time at Creekside Park, chances are you’ve seen Shannon Boucher — probably smiling, probably making a student laugh and, if there’s a school theme, probably dressed for the occasion.

But a fun photo only tells part of the story.

What you don’t see is what Mr. Boucher does every single morning.

Before 7 a.m., well before the school doors open, Mr. Boucher is already in the cafeteria, ready to welcome students. As car riders arrive, he greets them with a smile, a fist bump, eye contact and a genuine “How are you doing?” or “Have a great day!”

For Mr. Boucher, those little moments are anything but little.

“Being at school early each morning to welcome students means showing them they matter before their day even begins,” Mr. Boucher said. “A smile, a greeting or a quick check-in can help students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.”

He checks in with his students, makes sure they have what they need and looks for those who might need a little extra encouragement to start the day.

“I want every student to know I’m glad they’re here and that they have someone they can count on,” he said. “And as a parent, I like to see my child smile when they go into school.”

As a 6th Grade Specialized Support Teacher, Mr. Boucher pours into the students on his caseload, but his impact reaches far beyond them. He makes a point to know students across the campus and build relationships wherever he can.

And Principal Tara Bailey sees that impact every day.

“Mr. Boucher’s energy brings an undeniable warmth to our campus each and every day,” Mrs. Bailey said. “Whether he is lighting up the faces of our students in the hallways or inspiring his colleagues by modeling compassionate, student-centered care, he embodies the very best of Creekside Park.”

And then there’s the fun.

Mr. Boucher loves seeing students and staff smile, and his all-in approach to school themes is just another way he connects with them.

“We can work hard and still have fun,” he said. “If dressing up or being a little silly helps a student feel welcome or part of our school, it’s worth it to me.”

For Mrs. Bailey, those morning greetings are more than a daily routine — they are part of the culture Mr. Boucher helps create.

“The impact of having him welcome our students each morning cannot be overstated,” she said. “It is a continuous positive force on our campus culture. Mr. Boucher doesn’t just welcome students to school; he is establishing a standard of care that defines who we are as Cougars.”

That heart for education has been part of Mr. Boucher’s life for more than four decades. His involvement began in 1984 as a volunteer teacher’s helper in a kindergarten classroom. Since then, he has served as a volunteer, substitute teacher and classroom teacher, including six years as a paid teacher. This is his third year in Texas, his second year in Tomball ISD and his first year at Creekside Park.

Through all those years and roles, one thing remains the same: Mr. Boucher wants kids to know they matter.

“I hope students leave Creekside Park remembering that they felt welcome, supported and had a great experience,” he said. “I want them to look back on the friendships, laughter and good memories and remember how fun school — and life — can be.”

And Mrs. Bailey knows exactly what kind of difference that makes.

“Mr. Boucher is the exact kind of educator you want on your campus, because he pours into the culture of our campus with his authentic care, genuine empathy and a strong commitment to our students,” she said.
