TOMBALL - With the 2022-2023 school year just around the corner, Tomball ISD went ‘Back to the 80s’, celebrating the District’s 85th Birthday and welcomed back over 2,900 employees at Convocation 2022.

This year’s theme, Totally Tomball, was alive and well with bright colors, big hair and loud music. Local band, Time Warp, featuring Tomball ISD Digital Learning Coach George Williams kicked off

the event with classics from the 1980s.

“Today is always one of my favorite days of the year,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Superintendent of Schools as she welcomed back Team Tomball.

The program began with Salazar-Zamora celebrating academic excellence.

“Reaching a major milestone like this can only be achieved through incredible teamwork and we are so blessed to have that here in Tomball ISD,” she said.

She went on to share accolades as a fast-growth school district and provided a look at what’s to come this year regarding innovation, Bond 2021 projects, safety in schools and the Leadership Definition.

Tomball ISD also welcomed in the Tomball Education Foundation, who are community volunteers dedicated to the success of all students and staff in Tomball ISD. These individuals spent countless hours raising money to support teachers and staff through innovative educational grants each year.

As an annual tradition, decked out in their 80s attire this year, campus roll call moved the program along as 22 campuses and several district administrative departments showcased spirit all for a chance to win the coveted Spirit Stick award. Coming away with the Spirit Sticks were Oakcrest Intermediate and Curriculum and Instruction.

Following roll call, Tomball ISD welcomed Jill Siler, author, speaker and former public education Superintendent, to the stage for an inspiring message to all staff.

She was followed by community partners First Community Credit Union and Tomball Ford representatives, who awarded staff members with a few giveaways. First Community Credit Union awarded two Team Tomball staff members with a four-pack of tickets to an upcoming Houston Astros game, while Tomball Ford presented one lucky staff member a FREE car for a year.
