Tomball ISD Families and Staff,

I hope this message finds you well. As part of our continued efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and schools, I want to address a serious issue that we continue to navigate in an increasingly digital world.

In recent days, there have been numerous cases of threats against schools and districts in the Houston area and across the nation, including Tomball ISD.

As a community, it is crucial that we address the potential risks and consequences associated with social media use, particularly when it comes to inappropriate or threatening behavior online. It is important for students to understand that even casual remarks or “jokes” about violence or harm can result in significant consequences.

Every threat, regardless of intent, is treated with the utmost seriousness and will be reported to local authorities. Please remind students that making such threats could rise to the level of a felony charge under the Texas Penal Code, and is NOT tolerated in Tomball ISD.

Tomball ISD and Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office will prosecute any individual who threatens the safety of our students, staff or schools to the fullest extent of the law. In addition to legal consequences, students will face disciplinary consequences from the school district in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

Also, as a reminder, no weapons of any kind are permitted on the premises of any TISD campus or facility. Do not allow your child to bring anything to school that is a weapon or gives the appearance of being a weapon, even if it is a toy. Airsofts, pellet guns, BB guns and water guns are not allowed.

Tomball ISD is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students, but we need your help. We will continue to educate students on digital citizenship and responsible social media use, but your involvement at home is vital to reinforcing these lessons and reminding students, "It’s Not a Joke. Think Before You Post”

Please take this opportunity to review your child’s social media activity and help them understand the gravity of this issue. It is critical that students understand that social media is not an anonymous space and that their actions, including what they post, share, or comment on, have real-world consequences.

We also encourage our community to continue utilizing our Anonymous Alerts platform to report any suspicious or concerning post or threat. As always, if you ‘See Something, Say Something’.

Our shared goal in Tomball ISD is to keep our schools safe and foster a supportive learning environment where all students can thrive. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Working together, we can ensure that our students are equipped to use social media in a positive and constructive manner.

Thank you for your partnership in this important matter.

Sincerely,

Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora
Superintendent of Schools
