Board of Trustees Approve Expansion of Two-Way Dual Language Academy
TOMBALL – During the April 2023 Regular Board of Trustees Meeting, the Tomball ISD School Board unanimously approved the expansion of the Two-Way Dual Language Academy to include fifth and sixth grade at Tomball Intermediate School.
"I am very appreciative of our School Board for believing and trusting in our Two-Way Dual Language program,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Tomball ISD Superintendent of Schools. “The program itself has excelled and exceeded expectations and we can't be more excited to offer this expansion to our families and students who choose to be a part of this amazing program. By approving this expansion, our students will significantly be impacted as a dual language student with the additional two years at the intermediate level. It is our hope that this program continues to help students become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural, all while maintaining high academic performance.”
This expansion will begin in the 2024-2025 school year for the leading Cohort of students, who are currently in third grade at RES.
The Tomball ISD Two-Way Dual Language Academy will remain at Rosehill Elementary, serving students Kindergarten through 4th grade. Students must be 5 yrs old on or before Sept. 1 of the current year to apply. As a biliteracy program model that integrates native English speakers and native Spanish speakers, students receive instruction in both languages through the core content areas of Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
The goal of the Dual Language Program is to help students become bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural while promoting high academic achievement.
