Tomball ISD Students Shine at UIL State Academic Competitions

TOMBALL - Tomball ISD students showcased their academic excellence on the state stage, earning multiple medals and Top 10 finishes at the UIL State Academic Competitions across Class 6A and 3A divisions.

Tomball ISD was strongly represented by students from Tomball Memorial High School, Tomball High School and Tomball Star Academy, with Tomball Memorial High School leading the way in the UIL 6A State Academic Meet.

TMHS senior Vivian Nguyen earned a State Championship in Copy Editing, capturing 1st place honors. Additional top finishes for TMHS included:

  • Aaryan Karlapalem — 3rd place, Mathematics
  • Hieu Huynh — 3rd place, Chemistry
  • Spelling Team of Pri Aravinthkumar, Ved Nekkalapudi, Nathan Fuentes Estrada and Stella Mejia — 4th place
  • John Aday — 5th place, Current events
  • Number Sense Team of Yuvan Katamaneni, Hieu Huynh, Andrew Lin, Shantanu Patil
  • Andrew Lin — 6th place, Number Sense
  • Hieu Huynh — 10th place, Number Sense
  • Journalism Team — 6th place overall

From Tomball High School, John Lezama earned a Top 10 state finish, placing 7th in Computer Science.

At the UIL 3A State Academic Competition, Tomball Star Academy’s Social Studies Team earned a second-place team finish. Team members included Amy Carmona, Adam Wiley, Sophia Suazo and Dennis Gunduz. Individually, Carmona captured 3rd place honors, while Wiley finished 4th overall.

The UIL Academic State Meet is the highest level of academic competition in Texas, bringing together the state’s top-performing students in a variety of academic disciplines.
