Grand Oaks Elementary welcomed families to campus for an engaging evening centered on connection, exploration, and the shared joy of learning during its annual Family Engagement Night.

From the moment families arrived, the campus came alive—transforming into a space where students and parents could learn side by side through hands-on experiences, creativity, and play.

“Family Engagement Night is all about bringing our families onto campus to experience the joy, energy, and heart of our school,” campus leadership shared. “This night creates a space where connection happens naturally through shared experiences.”

The event was made possible through collaboration across the district and support from community partners, including Lone Star Public Library, the YMCA, Mathnasium, H-E-B, GOES PTO, Seah Steel, Raising Cane’s, Churchstory, and Mackin.

“This event truly came to life through the connections we have across our district and community,” campus leadership added. “It reflects the strength of what we can create together for our families.”

Families explored a wide range of interactive opportunities throughout the evening—from solving “The Case of the Missing Tiger” and experiencing the Glow Room to relaxing in the Zen Den, enjoying a Story Walk, and participating in a movie theater experience. The Grand Oaks Choir performed, and many students took home free books to continue the learning beyond campus.

Beyond the fun, the night highlighted meaningful learning in action.

“At Family Engagement Night, students aren’t just participating—they’re applying real-world skills in meaningful ways,” campus leadership shared. “We believe authentic learning happens through play and exploration.”

One standout moment came from fourth grade student ambassadors, who spent the evening promoting their community service project supporting Mission of Yahweh, reflecting the leadership and service mindset fostered at Grand Oaks.

“When families feel welcomed, supported, and connected, it changes everything for a child,” campus leadership said. “These experiences build trust and a true sense of belonging.”

A particularly meaningful part of the evening was the Story Walk featuring No Words Just Love: Gianna Goes to School, written by Grand Oaks parent Jerry Alcoser about her daughter, Gianna.

“Gianna inspired everything,” Alcoser shared. “I wanted to create something that gives her a voice and helps others see her joy and potential. Communication doesn’t always need words.”

She added, “I hope people walk away with a deeper sense of empathy and understanding. Every child experiences the world in their own way—and that’s something to celebrate.”

The story reflects the values at the heart of Grand Oaks.

“At Grand Oaks, we believe every child has a story worth celebrating,” campus leadership shared. “This is how we show our students that every voice matters.”

Family Engagement Night was intentionally designed so every child and family could fully participate, including those in the Structured Learning Lab (SLL) program.

“Our goal is simple: when families walk through our doors, they feel supported, included, and proud,” campus leadership said.

For Grand Oaks Elementary, the evening was more than an event—it was a reflection of a campus culture rooted in belonging, connection, and the belief that every child matters.
